Tanya Giles is General Manager, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land. Giles reports to Kent Alterman, President of the three brands, and is based in the SoHo office in New York City.
As GM, Giles is responsible for the day-to-day strategy and operations of all three brands, with direct oversight of Brand Strategy, Marketing, Programming, and Digital/Social Strategy. She also coordinates closely with Viacom’s Global Entertainment Group Marketing & Partner Solutions, Content Distribution, Strategic Insights & Research, Strategy & Business Development, Finance, Business & Legal Affairs, and Human Resources teams.
Prior to this role, Giles was Executive Vice President, Strategic Insights & Research for Viacom Media Networks’ Music & Entertainment Group and BET Networks. In this role she served as chief research advisor to the senior management teams, delivering comprehensive, strategic and integrated marketing research plans to the portfolio of brands led by Comedy Central, MTV, Spike, VH1, BET, MTV2 and Logo, and was responsible for the strategic oversight of research and planning for all multiplatform business units affiliated them.
Giles joined Viacom in 1997 as a Senior Analyst at Nickelodeon, where she supported the brand on both qualitative and quantitative research efforts, rising to Director of the Nickelodeon Ratings Research Group. From there she moved to TV Land as Vice President of Research and Planning, where she managed all research for TV Land’s linear and online audiences. She became directly involved with Comedy Central in 2007 when she was promoted to Senior Vice President, Research and Planning, for Viacom’s Entertainment Group, which consisted of Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land. Giles began her career in television in 1995 as a research analyst at CBS.
Giles received her BA from Syracuse University and her MA from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Giles lives in New York City with her husband David and sons Oscar and Malcolm, who was born in the back seat of a cab in Manhattan.
